Home - Travel Information - Nepal FAQ Where is Nepal?

What is the education system in Nepal? What can I study in Nepal?
There are upto 10 years (grades) in a high school, followed by a 2 year for secondary higher education. The final examination known as School Leaving certificate (SLC) given on the final year of 10th grade of high school decides whether one will make it to the colleges or not. SLC is one of the most serious exam and the most talked about exam in Nepal. After passing SLC, one has the option of studying for higher secondary which is another 2 years (11th and 12th grade) study or undertake a 2 year course called `Intermediate' or `Proficiency certificate' in a chosen subject. Bachelors is a 3 year course. Masters degree is of 2 years course except on an internationally recognized universities such as Kathmandu University where it is of four to five years. Teaching in most universities are mainly done in English language. Due to lack of course materials in Nepali language, students prefer to study using English books and materials such as CD-ROMs and Multi media. Exams can be taken in either Nepali or English.

Animal rights and the theory behind it

Which concept of animal rights is the best? Is it respect, freedom, intrinsic value, love, compassion, equality or something else? What should be the basis for animal rights?

It is in the nature of animals to assert themselves in the animal world but this in itself has nothing to do with having rights. At a certain point in time man conceived the notion of 'rights' and it is man alone that employs such a concept.
Why then do we speak of animal rights? The answer is quite simple: animal rights are meant to set limits to human behavior. If we fail to set clear legal limits to human behavior in relation to animals, it will be impossible to initiate legal proceedings against those who exceed these limits. Animals are vulnerable, defenseless and completely in man's power. Persons who disregard the well being of animals should be brought to court and be held accountable for violating animal rights.

People and animals relate to each other in different ways:

  • animal lovers keep them as pets
  • those who like the taste of animals eat them
  • some people like animals for the sake of sexual arousal
  • some people believe their religion demands them to sacrifice animals
  • some people who like animals just leave them alone

What is the basis for granting rights to animals?

Topics:

  • Is there a satisfactory basic principle?
  • Can freedom be maintained as a fundamental right if it is infringed?
  • Isn't being an owner of an animal in conflict with the right of freedom?
  • Advocating animal rights should be financially rewarded
  • Should all wrongful actions towards animals be prohibited?

Animals are only capable of expressing themselves indirectly in case of abuse. Therefore it is up to us to answer the question above.
Concepts that are eligible for forming the basis of animal rights are intrinsic value, welfare, respect, freedom, equality, compassion etc. Many of these concepts seem appropriate but are less suitable if we apply them in practical situations.

Task about the IT

The articals gives the information about the weblogs in a Norwegian University. Weblogs provides the opportunity for the students to write freely their work and experience so that it can be evaluated by their friends, classmates, teachers or those who are related with this. Blog can perform with real people with their clear ideas and feelings. It helps to identifies and build on good practise and innovatives ideas, and it assists in the self development and performance.

Weblogs tools have made it easier for beginers to create their own weblogs and update as often as they wish every five minutes, weblogs are thus more dynamic and effective than older styles home pages,They are more private and personal than the traditional journalism. The intresting or the important things that I found in this text is that Weblogs provide a chance for students to experience writing in a public space where their work can have real value both for their classmates and for a wider community.

In conclusion weblogs helps us how to grab the readers attention. It helps how to be a better writer.I think if we give too much information over and aver again people might feel bore. So we should analyze them very carefully and give short and effective information.
My oponion is that.... weblog is helping us to connect in the network world by providing us facilities like free of cost. We can easily use this blogs because it is easy for the student to use it.Its the open form which talks about our learning, our oponion and our voices.
